Documented complications of infected urachal cysts include acute hemorrhage; systemic sepsis; and stone, fistula, and abscess formation. Pelvic inflammatory disease is a complication of sexually transmitted infection, usually chlamydia or gonorrhea. Infected urachal cysts can clinically mimic pelvic inflammatory disease, appendicitis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
